Membership is a spiritual practice of commitment. Commitment is the movement of the heart to learn to stay in a particular place, to love those who God has called together, and to be formed by Christ among a particular people together. We see this as a journey and discernment process in community.
We believe in a global church, that we share together with all persons who profess faith in Jesus, united into Christ by the power of Holy Spirit, through the waters of baptism.
All followers of Christ are part of this reality. We desire to live with a posture of openness to God's people globally (and in city) and in commitment to a particular people locally.
Locally, we are an expression of what God is doing among a particular people in a particular place. We listen for His voice in this community, and to become more deeply rooted in His faithfulness together: to worship, to pray, to persevere, to serve one another with steadfast love, and to let our lives intertwine with the lives of others, growing into the maturity of Christ.
The way of Christ is personal and relational and those take time. Stability takes time. Trust takes time. Relationships take time to deepen, and our lives take time to weave together in meaningful and faithful ways. It takes time to learn how to be known and to know others through the life of the community.
We believe that we are called as "Children of God" first and we learn what it means to be attentive to God together. We live into this through Sundays together in worship and sharing meals and throughout the week in prayer and meeting together.
We believe when God brings a people into a particular place (“where two or three are gathered.." Matthew 18:20), He is forming them together, through being present with one another and serving one another in steadfast love.
Membership is gradual. Membership is learning to increasingly abide in Christ and to love God through a commitment to others in a community. For some, this may unfold over a year; for others, over several years.
When one senses deeper commitment to the people who gather here at Renewal Church, we encourage and walk together in reflection.
Reflecting on your own story of faith, and on baptism, which joins us to the whole people of God. We desire to see one another as uniquely part of God's larger story in the world.
Reflecting on the particular calling and vision that shape our common life in this place. We desire to see God at work here together.
Those who choose to make this recognition of membership acknowledge the calling of this community in joining with God in the flourishing of all people and all creation.
We practice a commitment to all those who gather, through our attentiveness to God together for one another and in this particular place. We practice attentiveness, by listening to what God and one another might be saying for the community’s direction and leadership, for life together and worship, for our service and care for the world, and for discipleship. We practice commitment through our continued love of Christ and for one another.
For those who are exploring faith, witnessing our worship, sharing in meals, or joining our gatherings as they discern who Jesus is, all are welcome. This is a community where all can take time, to ask questions, and discover at one's own pace what life with God and His people might look like.
